Daniel Wohl was born in Paris France, where he began his compositional life as a teenager writing music in various bands. He received his Bachelors degree from Bard College, and is currently completing his Masters degree on full scholarship at the University of Michigan School of Music. His principal composition teachers have been William Bolcom, Bright Sheng, Joan Tower and Christopher Theophanidis. He has been a Fellow at the Bowdoin and Deer Valley Festivals, and will be attending the Bang on a Can Summer Institute of Music in 2007.
Recent performances and commissions include pieces for the American Symphony Orchestra, St Luke’s Chamber Players, the University of Michigan Philharmonic, the Da Capo Chamber Players, and the Lunaire Quartet, amongst others. He has been the recipient of several awards including the Jacob Druckman Prize, a NY Look & Listen semi-finalist distinction, an honorable mention at the 2007 ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composers Award and a Young Composers Award (Austin Pea State University Competition).
Daniel Wohl continues to be active as a television and film composer, scoring for director Stephane Elmadjian’s, “Comme un Chat Noir au Fond d’un Sac” (“Like a Black Cat in a Bag”), a feature length film to be released in theatres at the Cannes Film Market, as well as creating music for television spots in New York and Paris.
Daniel is also an electronic music artist, and is currently writing and recording an album to be released in 2008.
