Collaboration with ScienCentral: first steps…
Filed under Science & The City, Rockefeller Film Series |Dr. Eliene Augenbraum, Chief Executive/President, and Brad Kloza, News Director of the independent news source ScienCentral have agreed to collaborate on a series of shorts about “Scientists at Rockefeller University”. These “portraits of scientist” series which broadcasted on ScienCentral’s web news site and also at the Rockefeller Film Series screenings. The objective is to have a more personal view into the lives of researchers and scientists, have them guide us through their work, get to know them outside of work. These little vignettes will also highlight the connections between science & the city (that is New York City). We also plan within this collaboration to prepare more simple clips about different quirky themes of science. A few ideas are “strange laboratory objects”, “scientists and their bench”, “the bulletin boards”, and “a look into the incubators/refrigerators”. Samara Brown, technician in the lab and also former adviser on editing of the documentary “A Fruit Fly in New York” will be helping me in the process.
We will begin following the SURF (Summer Undegraduate Research Fellowhip) students at Rockefeller. Before shooting, a few details have to be settled.
1. I need to obtain a PIO approval for shooting at Rockefeller.
2. Send an email out to the SURF students.
3. For students interested in participating, I need to have them sign releases as to not have issues with appearances on a public film.![]()
I am also very excited to announce that ScienCentral will be providing us with camera and edit gear. We will need to schedule a shoot date with Brad Kloza. We will be provided with a mini HDV-cam (which Dr. Augenbraun refers to as “the spy cam”) and the “sun gun” for lighting.
