    SYNOPSIS
Nine-year-old Betsey is forced to spend the day with her father in his laboratory, the Fly Room, where scientists study fruit flies, unlocking the laws of heredity that later became the foundation of modern genetics. While at first she feels closer to him than she ever has, she ultimately discovers secrets about him that will transform their relationship forever.

    PROJECT OVERVIEW
THE FLY ROOM is a sweeping, yet intimate portrait of the complicated relationship be- tween geneticist Calvin Bridges and his precocious nine-year-old daughter Betsey. The story helps bring to life one of the most important scientific laboratories of the 20th Cen tury.

THE FLY ROOM takes place predominantly in one location: the original Fly Room labora- tory at Columbia University. To date, a plaque remembering room 613 is the only public acknowledgement of the real Fly Room on the Columbia University campus. In prepara- tion for the film, we have already been granted permission to shoot on premises at Colum- bia University. The science departments have been supportive of our film project, as it is in line with their efforts to highlight a part of American genetics history at the University.
The project not only promises to be financially viable in terms of production, but provides an opportunity to show the human side of a famous geneticist. It will make a valuable con- tribution to our understanding of the history of genetics in the United States and the men and women who made these scientific breakthroughs.

Our finance strategy for the feature THE FLY ROOM was created in the early stages of the project’s development and plans for fundraising and promotion are already in motion. We’ve discovered an amazing first-time nine-year-old actress Zoe Brooks and are aspiring to start shooting in late Fall 2012, in the hopes of premiering at festivals, such as the Cannes Film Festival, in the first half of 2013.

The lead roles, including Calvin Bridges, will be cast from the New York Theater talent pool and New York University’s premier Graduate Acting program. A few of the scientists in The Fly Room will be filled by real graduate student scientists, working in New York labs to rec- reate a credible laboratory atmosphere.
